Meaning and history
Ahti is a Finnish masculine name associated with Finnish mythology. In later folklore and the Kalevala tradition, Ahti is a name or epithet connected with the heroic figure Lemminkäinen and also with a water deity called Ahto. Its precise original meaning is uncertain. The name therefore carries both heroic and aquatic mythological associations rather than one secure translation. Notable bearers include Finnish architect Ahti Korhonen and politician Ahti Pekkala.
