Meaning and history
Ákos is a Hungarian masculine name of old and uncertain origin. It was the name of a medieval Hungarian clan, and modern explanations often connect it with a Turkic expression interpreted as “white falcon,” but this derivation is not universally accepted. The name therefore should not be assigned a completely certain literal meaning. Notable bearers include Hungarian singer-songwriter Ákos Kovács, professionally known simply as Ákos, and Hungarian footballer Ákos Buzsáky.
In 2012, 5 babies were recorded with the name Ákos, ranking #12,274 among boys.
