Meaning and history
Alexandrie is a rare French feminine form related to Alexandria and Alexandra. All ultimately derive from Greek Alexandros, combining alexein, “to defend,” with anēr, “man,” and traditionally meaning “defender of men.” Alexandria is also the French name of the Egyptian city founded by Alexander the Great, giving Alexandrie a geographic association. Because exact personal-name use is uncommon, prominent verified bearers are limited. The form should not be assigned a separate meaning from its Alexander root.
