Meaning and history
Scandinavian name combining the Old Norse alfr, "elf," and hildr, "battle." According to the medieval Gesta Danorum, Alfhild was a legendary shieldmaiden and Geatish princess who fled an arranged marriage to lead a crew of female pirate raiders across the Baltic Sea.
