Ambrosine is a French feminine form of Ambrose. Ambrose derives from Greek ambrosios, meaning “immortal” or “divine,” related to ambrosia, the food or drink of the Greek gods. Saint Ambrose of Milan, a fourth-century bishop and theologian, gave the name family major Christian significance. A notable bearer was British actor Ambrosine Phillpotts, known for stage, film, and television roles. Ambrosia and Ambrosina are related but distinct feminine forms.
