Amira is the Arabic feminine form of Amir and means princess or female commander; the same spelling also exists independently in Hebrew. It is used across Arabic, Bosnian, Malay and Hebrew-speaking communities. Notable bearers include Israeli journalist Amira Hass and French actress Amira Casar.
