Meaning and history

Meaning unknown. This is the name of a character in the Star Wars film saga, also known as Darth Vader, created by George Lucas. Although Lucas denied it, the name may have been based on the surname of his friend and fellow director Ken Annakin. The character appears earlier in the series, but the name Anakin is not spoken until The Return of the Jedi (1983), the third film, though it was later dubbed into a rerelease of the second film.
