Meaning and history
Andromache is a name derived from the Greek elements ἀνήρ (anēr), meaning “man” with the genitive form ἀνδρός, and μάχη (machē), meaning “battle.” In Greek legend, Andromache was the wife of the Trojan hero Hector; after the fall of Troy, Neoptolemus killed her son Astyanax and took her as a concubine.
