Anita is a diminutive of Ana used in Spanish, Portuguese, Croatian and Slovene, ultimately deriving from the Hebrew name Hannah and carrying the meaning "grace" or "favour." It later became an independent name across much of Europe and the English-speaking world. Notable bearers include American lawyer and academic Anita Hill and singer Anita Baker.
