Meaning and history
Apollo comes from Greek Apollon, of uncertain origin; it may relate to an Indo-European root meaning "strength" or to the Anatolian god Appaliunaš, possibly "father lion" or "father light," while Greeks later connected it with apollymi, "to destroy." In mythology, Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto, twin of Artemis, and god of prophecy, medicine, music, art, law, beauty and wisdom, later also associated with the sun and light.
