Meaning and history

Arkady is the Russian form of Greek Arkadios, meaning “from Arcadia.” Arcadia is a mountainous region of the Peloponnese that later poetry idealized as a peaceful pastoral landscape, giving the name literary associations beyond its geographic origin. Saint Arcadius and other early Christians helped transmit the name. Notable bearers include Russian writer Arkady Gaidar and Soviet-Russian science-fiction author Arkady Strugatsky, who collaborated with his brother Boris.
