Meaning and history
A Scandinavian short form of Old Norse names beginning with the element ǫrn, meaning "eagle," ultimately from Proto-Germanic *arô. The name has been used in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden since at least the 11th century, when it appears on runestones. A notable bearer is Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971), creator of the Egg chair and other icons of modern Scandinavian design.
