Meaning and history
Arsène is the French form of the Greek masculine name Arsenios, derived from arsēn, meaning “male” or “virile.” Early saints named Arsenius, including the desert monk Arsenius the Great, gave it Christian history. The fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, created by Maurice Leblanc, added a major literary association but did not originate the name. Notable real-life bearers include French football manager Arsène Wenger and Haitian statesman and novelist Arsène Magloire.
In 2025, 8 babies were recorded with the name Arsène, ranking #8,910 among boys.
