Meaning and history
Artem is a Ukrainian and Russian form related to Greek Artemios and Artemas. The Greek name is traditionally associated with Artemis, goddess of the hunt and wilderness, although the deeper etymology of both names is uncertain. Artem is also sometimes treated as a short form of Artemiy in East Slavic usage. Notable bearers include Ukrainian footballer Artem Dovbyk and Russian-American dancer Artem Chigvintsev. It is distinct from the English word “art.”
