From the Sanskrit अरुण (aruṇa), meaning "dawn" or "reddish-brown," describing the glow of the rising sun. In Hindu mythology, Aruna is the charioteer of the sun god Surya, driving his chariot ahead of the dawn. A well-known modern bearer is Arun Gandhi (1934-2023), grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and a lifelong advocate for nonviolence.
