Arya comes from an ancient Indo-Iranian word meaning "noble" and is used as a given name in several South Asian and Iranian languages. In modern English-speaking countries, it became especially familiar through Arya Stark, a central character in George R. R. Martin's fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire and its television adaptation Game of Thrones. Another notable bearer is Indian actor Arya, the stage name of Jamshad Cethirakath.
