Meaning and history
Ástríðr is the Old Norse form of Astrid, composed of elements meaning "god" and "beautiful" or "beloved." It was borne by medieval Scandinavian royal women and developed into Astrid in modern Nordic languages. Notable later bearers of the modern form include Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren and Queen Astrid of Belgium.
