Meaning and history
Latinized form of Greek Ἀττικός (Attikos), meaning “from Attica,” the region around Athens in Greece. The name was borne by a few notable Greeks from the Roman period, or Romans of Greek background, and was later used by Harper Lee in To Kill a Mockingbird (1960) for the Alabama lawyer who defends a black man accused of raping a white woman.
