Awstin

Awstin is the Welsh form of Austin. Austin developed in medieval English from Augustine, which comes from the Roman name Augustus, meaning “great,” “venerable,” or “majestic.” Saint Augustine of Hippo, an influential theologian, and Saint Augustine of Canterbury, a missionary to England, gave the name major Christian significance. Awstin reflects Welsh spelling conventions rather than a separate etymology. Prominent exact-spelling bearers are limited, although the form appears in Welsh historical and literary records.
