Bartosz is a Polish masculine form related to Bartłomiej, the Polish form of Bartholomew. Bartholomew derives from Aramaic bar-Talmay, meaning “son of Talmay.” The meaning of Talmay itself is uncertain, though it has traditionally been connected with furrows or ploughing. Saint Bartholomew the Apostle gave the name lasting Christian significance. Notable bearers include Polish volleyball player Bartosz Kurek and Polish football goalkeeper Bartosz Białkowski.
