Meaning and history
From a medieval French nickname meaning “white” or “fair-colored,” Blanche ultimately derives from the Germanic word blankaz. An early bearer was Blanca of Navarre, the 12th-century wife of Sancho III of Castile, and her granddaughter Blanche, who married Louis VIII of France, helped make the name more common in France.
