Bradley comes from the English surname Bradley, which was originally taken from place names meaning “broad clearing,” from Old English brad “broad” and leah “woodland, clearing.” A noted bearer of the surname was the American World War II general Omar Bradley (1893–1981). The name was already moderately used before the war, then became more popular after 1945 and peaked around 1980.
