Meaning and history
From an English surname taken from a place name meaning “hill covered with broom,” from Old English brom “broom plant” and dun “hill,” Brandon was already rising on the American charts when child actor Brandon Cruz debuted on The Courtship of Eddie’s Father in 1969. After peaking in popularity in the 1980s and then declining, the name rebounded with the introduction of Brandon Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1990 and reached its American peak at rank sixth in 1992.
Brandon moved from #230 to #261 for boys between 2024 and 2025. Its highest annual birth count came in 1992, with 29,628 births.
