Caedmon is of uncertain meaning, though its first element is probably related to Brythonic kad, meaning “battle.” Saint Caedmon was a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon poet said to have received his poetic inspiration in a dream, and he is known only from the 8th-century account of the historian Bede.
