Meaning and history
This name comes from two plants, the true calla (Calla palustris) and the calla lily (Calla aethiopica), both of which have white flowers and grow in marshy areas; it may also have been inspired by Greek κάλλος (kallos), meaning “beauty.”
Calla rose from #994 to #990 for girls between 1895 and 1897. Its highest annual birth count came in 1886, with 12 births.
