Meaning and history
Latin form of Καμβύσης (Kambyses), the Greek rendering of the Old Persian name 𐎣𐎲𐎢𐎪𐎡𐎹 (Kabujiya), whose meaning is uncertain but may be related to the Central Asian region of Kamboja. The name was borne by two Persian kings, including Cambyses II, the second ruler of the Achaemenid Empire, who conquered Egypt.
