Cecil

Cecil comes from the Roman name Caecilius. Although it was used in medieval England, it did not become common until the 19th century, when it was given in honor of the noble Cecil family, prominent since the 16th century. The family surname ultimately comes from the Welsh given name Seisyll, which itself derives from the Roman name Sextilius, a form of Sextus.
