Meaning and history
Cecilio is the Spanish and Portuguese masculine form of Cecil or Caecilius. Caecilius was a Roman family name traditionally connected with Latin caecus, “blind,” although Roman family-name etymologies are not always certain. Saint Cecilius is traditionally regarded as an early bishop of Elvira in Spain, giving the name Christian history. Notable bearers include Paraguayan statesman Cecilio Báez and American musician Cecilio David Rodriguez, known as one half of the duo Cecilio & Kapono.
In 2025, 9 babies were recorded with the name Cecilio, ranking #8,243 among boys.
