Christabella

A modern compound of Christina and Bella rather than an ancient form.

Meaning and history

Christabella is a rare English feminine elaboration combining Christa or Christina with Bella. Christina comes from Greek Christianos, “a Christian,” while Bella can be a short form of Isabella or reflect Italian bella, “beautiful.” The name is therefore a later compound rather than an ancient form with one fixed translation. It resembles Christabel, used in medieval literature and by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, but is distinct. Reliable prominent real-life bearers are limited.
