Meaning and history
Christabelle is an English and French-influenced elaboration of Christabel, sometimes understood as a blend of Christa and Belle. Christa derives from Christian, meaning “follower of Christ,” while French belle means “beautiful.” Christabel itself has medieval and literary history, including Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem of that name. The combined interpretation is modern rather than an ancient phrase. A notable bearer is Maltese singer Christabelle Borg, who represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2025, 6 babies were recorded with the name Christabelle, ranking #13,208 among girls.
