Christal is a spelling variant of Crystal. Crystal comes from Greek krystallos, meaning “ice” and later “rock crystal,” reflecting the ancient belief that clear quartz was permanently frozen water. It became an English given name through the gemstone and transparent mineral rather than through the name Christ, despite the similar spelling. Notable bearers include American sprinter Christal Clashing and American actor Christal Chacon. The altered spelling does not establish a separate religious meaning.
