Ciara is an Irish feminine form of Ciar, derived from an Old Irish word meaning "dark" or "black." It is also associated with Saint Ciar, an early Irish holy woman, and has the anglicized variants Keira and Kiera. Outside Ireland its pronunciation is sometimes influenced by the Italian name Chiara, though the two have different origins. A prominent bearer is American singer Ciara Wilson.
