Meaning and history
Ĉiela is an Esperanto feminine name meaning “heavenly” or “of the sky.” It is formed from ĉielo, “sky” or “heaven,” with the adjectival ending -a; ĉielo ultimately draws on the Latin word caelum. The circumflex over ĉ is part of standard Esperanto spelling and represents a sound like English ch. Because Esperanto was created as an international auxiliary language in the late nineteenth century, Ĉiela is a modern constructed-language name rather than an ancient ethnic form.
In 2025, 34 babies were recorded with the name Ĉiela, ranking #4,172 among girls.
