Meaning and history
Constantia is a Latin feminine name formed from Constantius or Constans, ultimately meaning “constant,” “steadfast,” or “firm.” It was borne by several women of the later Roman imperial family, including Constantia, a daughter of Constantine the Great, which gave it strong late-antique and Christian associations. The name later appeared in learned European use. A notable bearer was Constantia Grierson, an eighteenth-century Irish editor, poet, and classical scholar.
