Meaning and history
Coraline is a name created by the French composer Adolphe Adam for a main character in his opera Le Toréador (1849), probably modeled on Coralie. It was later used by Neil Gaiman for the young heroine of his novel Coraline (2002), and Gaiman said the name originated as a typo of Caroline.
