Crispin comes from the Roman cognomen Crispinus, a derivative of Crispus. Saint Crispin was a 3rd-century Roman martyred in Gaul with his twin brother Crispinian, and the two became the patron saints of shoemakers. They were popular in medieval England, and the name has occasionally been used since then.
