Meaning and history
Cristóbal is the Spanish form of Christopher, from Greek Christophoros, meaning “bearer of Christ.” The name spread through the medieval legend of Saint Christopher. Explorer Christopher Columbus is known in Spanish as Cristóbal Colón, and artist Cristóbal Balenciaga is another famous bearer.
