Danaë is a figure from Greek mythology, the daughter of King Acrisius of Argos. Imprisoned because of a prophecy, she is visited by Zeus in the form of golden rain and becomes the mother of the hero Perseus. The name's original meaning is uncertain. It has inspired many works of art, including paintings by Titian and Gustav Klimt.
