Meaning and history
Daphne means “laurel” in Greek, and in Greek mythology she was a nymph transformed into a laurel tree by her father so she could escape Apollo’s pursuit. The name has been used as a given name in the English-speaking world since the end of the 19th century.
Daphne rose from #193 to #178 for girls between 2024 and 2025. That year also produced its highest recorded birth count, at 1,740.
