Davie is a Scottish and English diminutive of David, also used independently. David comes from Hebrew Dawid, traditionally interpreted as “beloved.” The biblical King David, portrayed as a warrior, poet, and ancestor of Jesus, gave the name lasting Jewish and Christian significance. Davie is especially familiar in Scotland, where the ending functions affectionately. Notable bearers include Scottish footballer Davie Cooper and German footballer Davie Selke.
