Meaning and history
Latinized form of the Greek name Δημήτριος (Demetrios), derived from the name of the Greek goddess Demeter. It was borne by kings of Macedon and the Seleucid kingdom and by several early saints, including Demetrius of Thessalonica, a 4th-century martyr regarded as a warrior.
Demetrius rose from #985 to #890 for boys between 2022 and 2023. Its highest annual birth count came in 1991, with 1,052 births.
