Dori has several unrelated uses. In English it may shorten Dorothy, from Greek Dorothea, meaning “gift of God,” or Doris, an ancient Greek regional and mythological name. In Hebrew, Dori can be an affectionate form associated with dor, “generation.” In Japanese, the same romanization may represent different characters, so its meaning depends on kanji. The bearer’s language and full name are therefore essential. Prominent exact-name real-life examples are comparatively limited.
