Ea is best known as the Akkadian name of the Mesopotamian god Enki, deity of water, wisdom, craftsmanship and creation. The ancient name's original meaning is uncertain. As a modern personal name it is rare and may also arise independently in Scandinavian usage. Its principal historical association remains the god Ea of Babylonian and Assyrian religion.
