Éadaoin is a modern Irish form associated with the Old Irish name Étaín. Étaín is borne by the heroine of Tochmarc Étaíne, “The Wooing of Étaín,” an important tale of the Mythological Cycle involving transformation, loss, and rebirth. The name’s literal etymology is uncertain, and proposed links with Old Irish words should not be treated as definitive. Éadaoin preserves Irish spelling and diacritics; exact-spelling prominent modern bearers are comparatively limited.
