Meaning and history
Ebbe is a Scandinavian masculine name with more than one historical source. In Danish and Swedish it may be a short form of Germanic names beginning with Eber-, meaning “wild boar,” or of names related to Esben; exact family traditions vary. It is also found independently in modern Scandinavia. Notable bearers include Danish footballer Ebbe Sand and Danish football manager Ebbe Skovdahl. Similar Frisian forms may have separate developments.
