Echo is a name derived from the Greek word ἠχώ (echo), meaning “echo” or “reflected sound,” and related to ἠχή (eche), meaning “sound.” In Greek mythology, Echo was a nymph whom Hera cursed with a speech impediment so she could only repeat the words of others; after falling in love with Narcissus and being rejected, she wasted away until only her voice remained.
