Edan has more than one origin. In modern Hebrew it can be a variant transcription of Idan, meaning “era” or “period of time.” In English-speaking contexts it may instead be a spelling variant of Aidan, from Irish Aodhán, traditionally interpreted as “little fire.” These origins are unrelated. A notable bearer is American rapper and producer Edan Portnoy, professionally known simply as Edan. Cultural background and original spelling determine the intended meaning.
