Edita is a form of Edith used in Lithuanian, Czech, Slovak, Croatian, Slovene, Spanish, and other European languages. Edith derives from Old English elements ēad, “wealth” or “fortune,” and gyð, “war,” giving the traditional sense “prosperous in war.” Saint Edith of Wilton helped preserve its Christian use. Notable bearers include Lithuanian model Edita Vilkevičiūtė and Slovak opera singer Edita Gruberová.
