Meaning and history
Edwin means "rich friend," from Old English ead, "wealth" or "fortune," and wine, "friend." Borne by a saintly 7th-century Northumbrian king, it fell from favor after the Norman Conquest and returned in the 19th century. Astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin (1930–), the second person to walk on the moon, is a notable bearer.
