Meaning and history
Elissa is a form of Elisa or Elizabeth, ultimately from a Hebrew name meaning "my God is an oath." It is also the name later tradition gives to Dido, the legendary Phoenician founder and queen of Carthage. Notable modern bearers include Lebanese singer Elissa, born Elissar Khoury, and American actress Elissa Landi.
Elissa rose from #910 to #888 for girls between 2005 and 2012. Its highest annual birth count came in 1979, with 408 births.
